Success Story - Chris Champion
I have been a patient at Gill Family Medicine for over 20 years. For the past 10 years or so every time I have had an appointment with Dr. Gill we have discussed my weight and my need to lose weight. In June 2013, at my semi-annual checkup, Dr. Gill did not mention weight loss to me at all. Since I had been expecting it and was prepared for the conversation I was a little surprised so I asked him about it. He explained that he had decided to start a Rapid Weight Loss program through his practice and that if anyone was serious they could participate in it.
I discussed the program, at least what I knew about it, with my wife. I explained to her that I thought it would be better for both of us to go through the program. It would be much easier and we would see much more success if we did it together. She agreed and we started the program on Nov. 21, 2013. This was the week before Thanksgiving and lots of people commented on how hard it would be to start a diet plan the week before Thanksgiving that would run through the holidays. My wife explained to them that Thanksgiving and Christmas would ALWAYS be coming every year and that if we could not eat healthy through these holidays now we would not be able to do it later.
I know there are other weight loss programs in the area. Many of these prescribe the appetite suppressants and the "B-12" shots. The Rapid Weight Loss program at Gill Family Medicine is unique, however, in the way they approach the problem (at least they are as best I can tell from talking to patients of other programs). There are two key components that make the program so successful, and these components are Amy Little and Carolyn King. When I went in for my weekly appointment, where I was weighed, my blood pressure was checked and I got the shot, Amy was always so encouraging and upbeat. Carolyn is the dietician on staff. She does not simply give you a couple of menus and expect you to follow them. Carolyn taught us how to eat properly, how to shop and what to look for when we bought groceries and even when we ate out. While this was important to me it was of utmost importance to my wife. What has happened is a lifestyle change not a diet plan. We just feel better when we eat better and we have no plan to return to our former bad eating habits.
I have finished up the 12-week program and I have lost 70 pounds. I lost 2" from my neck and 10" from my waist. I went from straining to get into 42 jeans to wearing a 34. Dr. Gill has taken me completely off of one of my blood pressure medications and hopefully will take me off of the second one shortly. I have had 5 knee surgeries in the past 6 years and used to take 1000mg of Naproxen daily to manage the arthritis pain. Walking up and down stairs was a one leg at a time procedure. I now go up and down stairs like a normal person. I feel 20 years younger. I have always been an outdoors person but for the past 10 years or so my activity level has been practically non-existent. I am back outside hunting, fishing and just exploring the woods again. I am even planning a backpacking trip this year to the Appalachian Trail.
I have spent a lot of money on a lot of things in my life. This was without a doubt the best money I have ever spent. If you need to lose weight don't hesitate. Call Gill Family Medicine and get into this program. Remember the easiest thing in the world to make is an excuse.
